Sizing & rigging
The questions we answer most often at the workshop counter in Scheveningen — with answers tuned to gusty, cross-onshore North Sea wind rather than flat-water conditions.
Start from your weight and the wind you actually sail in. A 75 kg rider is powered on roughly 6.0–6.5 m² in 15 knots, 5.0–5.5 m² in 20 knots, and 4.2–4.7 m² in 25 knots. Add about 0.5 m² for every 10 kg over 75 kg, and take 0.5 m² off if your home break is Scheveningen or Wijk aan Zee in autumn, where gusts commonly overshoot the forecast by 5 knots. Most Dutch coastal riders end up with a two-sail quiver around 5.3 and 4.5 m², then add a 6.5 for lighter summer days.
